Baklava is a dessert that most people enjoy out at a restaurant or buy at a grocery store, thinking that it is way to hard to make using the many sheets of phyllo dough that can be difficult to work with. We have simplified it without compromising the taste, by putting it in a phyllo dough cup. These bite sized delights are so easy that anyone can make them! Ingredient amounts yields 15 cups.
1 container of Athen’s brand premade phyllo dough shells, 15 count
1/2 cup of dried dates chopped and pitted if they have a pit
1/2 cup of dry roasted pistachios chopped (salted or unsalted – your choice)
2 tablespoon of brown sugar
1 tablespoon of hot water
Non-stick cooking spray
Honey for drizzling
Pit dates if they have a pit and chop into small pieces. Chop pistachios into small pieces. In a medium bowl add brown sugar and a tablespoon of hot water and mix well. Add dates and nuts and mix well. Scoop about 1 tablespoon of the mixture into each shell and place onto a baking sheet coated with non-stick cooking spray. Bake in a preheated oven at 350 degrees for 6 minutes. Remove, serve warm or cold, drizzle with honey and enjoy!
