Italian Style Burger on Garlic Bread

Hamburgers are as American as apple pie, but how about giving your next burgers an Italian twist?  Thinly slice your bread to make the burgers easy to hold and dip in the marinara sauce. Remember to use ground beef with about 20% fat for the juiciest burgers. Ingredient amounts will serve 4 as a main entrée or 8 as an appetizer. Ingredients

1 lb. of ground beef 80% lean 20% fat
1/4 cup of pesto
1/4 of ricotta cheese
1/4 cup of parmesan cheese
1 loaf of ciabatta bread with garlic
Marinara sauce for dipping
16 toothpicks

Technique

Place the first 4 ingredients in a medium bowl and mix well. Form burgers into 4 rectangular patties to match the size of the bread. Bake in a preheated oven at 375 degrees for 15 minutes. Slice bread horizontally and cut into four rectangles to match the burgers and place on a baking sheet to warm. Cooking times will vary depending on if you are using the type of bread from the bakery department or the frozen kind. For the kind from the bakery department, it will take about 5 minutes at 375 degrees and can be done while the burgers are baking. If you are using the bread from the frozen section, bake per packages directions. Once bread and burgers are done, place burger on the bread and insert 3 to 4 toothpicks into each burger and slice. Choose 3 toothpicks for larger potions or 4 toothpicks for smaller versions. For decorative purposes, place on an angle and arrange on a plate or a platter and serve with your favorite marinara sauce.
