Grilling and Chilling!

Grilling in Winter?  Yes, here in Houston, it is the perfect time of year!  However for those of you in the Northern states who miss the thrill of the grill in the winter months, the right grill pan can give you some delicious options until the warm weather returns.  My favorite grill pan comes from Nordic Ware brand.  I use it frequently for grilling and with a flip it becomes a griddle for making pancakes, grilled cheese sandwiches – you name it!  To grill indoors, you can also use a simple grill pan with a handle.  It is basically a skillet with the grilling texture inside.

I bought the Nordic grill pan several summers ago, because it was just too darn hot to grill outside!  On the other hand, have you ever grilled in a North Dakota winter?  At a February family gathering, my brother, Brad, invited us to share some of his prized venison filets.  In his parka, snow boots, hat and gloves, Brad hauled the gas grill to the garage (with the door open) and got going.  The wonderful aromas filtered into the house, and even though it was hovering around zero outside, we couldn’t help but sneak out for a nibble.  It gave new  meaning to the words “grilling and chilling”.  The moral of this story is, when it’s too hot or too cold outside, an indoor grill pan can make dinner just right!
