Apple Cornucopia!

It’s no coincidence that a symbol of the back-to-school season is a shiny red apple on a teacher’s desk.  Apple season begins in September.  With the first hints of Fall (such as they are inHouston), my thoughts turn to warm apple pie and hot apple cider with cinnamon sticks.  Apples come in an array of beautiful colors and tastes — tart, sweet, crunchy and tender.  With so many varieties to choose from, it has become popular to rate the best apples for cooking, baking and sauces.  At Chatty Gourmet, my recipes don’t require a particular type of apple to taste great.  Gala,Fuji, Honeycrisp, Granny Smith – try them all!  No other fruit offers so many different tastes and textures in your orchard or at your local grocery store!  School may be in session, but it’s time to forget the rules and choose a recipe that makes you want to go apple picking!
