Another option to make a refreshing beverage out of a tropical fruit. You really can have some fun creating these concoctions. Do spend a little more on the tequila because you are making a margarita from scratch. It is worth it! I highly recommend one that contains 100% agave. Try to get limes with thin skin, because they usually are juicier. Also roll them on the counter with the palm of your hand to yield more juice. See my recipe Simple Syrup if you would like to make your own simple syrup. The ingredient amounts will make two servings as shown.
Ingredients
1/4 cup of guava juice about one 2 guavas
1/4 cup of fresh squeezed lime juice, about 1 juicy lime
1/4 cup of triple sec
1/4 cup of simple syrup
1 cup of tequila, choose a decent kind
2 cups of ice
Garnish
Lime slices
2 tablespoon Kosher salt
Technique
Peel guavas see How to Peel a Prickly Pear technique if needed, the technique is the same for peeling a guava. Blend and strain to remove seeds. Rinse blender to make sure there aren’t any seeds remaining. Pour guava juice, lime juice, triple sec, simple syrup and tequila in blender and add ice. Blend until smooth. Place kosher salt onto a small flat dish. Smear squeezed lime around the rim of the margarita glass in order for the salt to stick to it. Salt the rim of the glass by dipping the rim into the salt and moving in a circular fashion until evenly coated. Pour margarita into glass and garnish with a sliced lime.
